Mental Deterioration Of Alzheimer s Disease - 2250 Words

â€Å"I want to tell you how much I miss my mother. Bits of her are still there. I miss her most when I’m sitting across from her,† (Crowley, Candy. October 21st, 2014). This quote refers specifically to Alzheimer’s, which is defined as progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the most common cause of premature senility. However, Alzheimer’s is merely only a form of many debilitating diseases under the umbrella of Dementia, defined as a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. Some examples of these disorders include: Vascular dementia, Frontotemporal dementia (Pick s disease), Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and of course as was previously for mentioned, Alzheimer s disease. Each form of dementia will be discussed in depth including their symptoms, treatm ents, and their histories. Vascular dementia is a decline in thinking skills caused by conditions that block or reduce blood flow to the brain, depriving brain cells of vital oxygen and nutrients. Conditions that can block blood flow to the brain are generally transient ischemic attacks (TIA’s) or strokes. When these occur, often major brain blood vessels are damaged and blocked causing effects on personality, ways of thinking and problem solving, and generally can coexist with changes linked with other types of dementia.Show MoreRelatedAlzheimer s Disease : A Progressive Mental Deterioration1109 Words   |  5 Pages Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive mental deterioration that can happen in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. Shakespeare present Iagos manipulation of Othello free essay sample

How does Shakespeare present Iagos manipulation of Othello? Shakespeare uses a number of techniques to express the manipulaton of Iago in this scene. He lies to Othello in a barefaced manner, as we know from earlier context, in which we see Iago slandering Othello to his friend Roderigo, in the first scene of the book, showing that from the outset Iago has been against Othello, and this facade of trying to help him out immediately tells us he is not to be trusted. From what we have already learnt it is apparent that Iago is a classic Machiavellian stereotype; he goes out of his way to upset others, seemingly for little reason other han his own entertainment, and we know that he is set to destroy Othello, hence why he is planting doubt in his mind that his wife Desdemona is cheating on him with Michael Cassio. He asks Othello the question, Did Michael Cassio, when you wooed my lady, know of your love? Othello replies He did from first to last. We will write a custom essay sample on Shakespeare present Iagos manipulation of Othello or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Why dost thou ask? And Iago rather cunningly responds with But for a satisfaction of my thought no further harm which translates as l was Just curious, no reason. This is clear reverse psychology which is a key symbol of manipulation. He basically wants to innocently lant the idea in Othellos mind, that he should be concerned about it. This has clearly worked as Othello responds with a question why of thy thought? This scene includes chaining conversation, but instead of the traditional question and answer format, it is question after question, which is representative of the confusion in Othellos mind, planted by Iago, it could symbolize his thoughts as they occur, like a subliminal narration. There is a repetition of the word honest, which is a stark contrast, representing the opposite of Iago but yet he is talking about it as if he understands. It is ironic how he speaks of how he thinks Michael Cassio is not honest, as we know it is the other way round, and that Iago is the liar in this situation. It is in this Scene we see the first warning signs of Othellos impending delusion. Up until this point the act has consisted mainly of chaining of simple conversation, however upon having these terrible thoughts planted in his mind, Othello enters an extended dialogue, accusing Iago of hiding something from him, which is foreshadowing as we know he thinks the same of Desdemona further along in the play. Iago replies of My lord, you know I love you. This could easily be compared to the earlier statement from Iago l do hate the moor. There is a great contrast between these two quotes as they portray completely different messages, one truthful and one a lie. In the first he refers to Othello as The Moor. In the second he refers to him as My lord. The use of the word The, signifies that Iago doesnt see Othello as a real person, more an object, and the word moor is highly derogatory, as it is labelling him purely on his ethnicity. This is perfect to compare with My lord as the use of my represents a false closeness between Othello and Iago, it is much ore personal, and implies Iago holds Othello close to his heart. And the title Lord signifies how Iago is making out that Othello is his superior; he addresses him with a title instead of simply with a trait. In conclusion. This goes to show that Iago is a cunning character, as he is planting ideas in Othellos, and manipulating him with something he cares deeply about, which speaks volumes about his personality. It is almost as if the characters are chess pieces and Iago is the player, the way he controls and plots them against each other, which ultimately leads to their demises.

Moreover, service line incorporates the various disciplines in order to ensure health care con tinuity. Health care facilities implement service line in order to create a balance among the various functions in the facility while ensuring that the market elements are taken into consideration. In this light of events, a person charged with the task of implementing service line must take into account the core functions of the health care facility, the amount of resources available, and the key market factors that affect health care industry. Considering all these factors ensures that the health care facility provides the best possible care to their patients while being within budgetary constraints. This paper examines the viability of developing a service line in Trinity health care facility. The focus will be on developing the cancer center that requires careful consideration before incorporating it into the hospital’s system. Introduction Researchers have carried out various researches to determine the overall demand for cancer centers in the global scene. In the curren t situation in the world, the number of cancer patients is constantly increasing. This increase has been attributed to the lifestyle that most people live. For instance, the use of gadgets in homes such as mobile phones that emit radiation may be one of the causatives of cancer. With the increase in number of cancer patients, there is also increase in demand for quality health care for the patients.Advertising Looking for coursework on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In 2005, the American Society of Clinical Oncology conducted a research to forecast the requirements of oncologists in the future (AAMC, 2007). According to the report presented by AAMC to the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the number demand for oncologists was going to increase due to the increase in number of cancer survivors (AAMC, 2007). In the early 1970s, the number of cancer survivors in the United States alone was approximately 3 million (AAMC, 2007). However, this figure has drastically changed and the number of survivors is currently up to 10 million (AAMC, 2007). The increase in number of cancer survivors is due to the improvement of services offered by cancer centers in the health care industry. With the increase in number of survivors, there is also an increase in demand for new cancer centers to carter for the surviving patients. A report released in 2011, projected the number of cancer cases in the United States was approximately 1, 596, 670 (ACS, 2011). Moreover, the projection provided did not include cancer patients with non-invasive cancer. This number was quite high and the available cancer centers could not carter for all the patients (ACS, 2011). Due to this fact, the report approximated that the number of patients who would die from cancer would be 571, 950. In 2012, the projected figure for cancer cases in the United States will be approximately 1,638,910 (ACS, 2012). In this light of even ts, incorporation of a cancer center will ensure that the hospital is able to cater for some of the cancer patients, earn income, and avoid some unnecessary deaths. The demand for cancer centers increases yearly (ACS, 2012). However, the patients only demand centers that are well equipped to enhance their survival. Therefore, for a new cancer center to meet the demand it must ensure that enough facilities are available to provide the patients with the required services while maintaining the low costs that enhance affordability. Therefore, incorporation of a cancer center into the hospital’s operations will require management to take into account a number of factors such as financial position, the core values of the hospital, and availability of labor to run the cancer center. These factors act to complement the demand element in service development.Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Service Line Development specifically for you for only $16 .05 $11/page Learn More International Analysis Watson in his survey discovered various key factors that play important roles in the global medical trends (2011). According to the report compiled by Watson, 95% of world’s countries had a medical trend that exceeded the rate of inflation (2011). This meant that the general expenditure on the medical services was increasing at a faster rate than the rate of inflation of the country. The increase in medical costs in the year 2009 was approximately 10.2% (Watson, 2011). However, the general inflation during the same year was approximately 6.9%. This trend was common in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Businesses, and companies, find it difficult to create a comprehensive medical scheme for their employees due to the fact that the medical costs are increasing at almost twice the rate of inflation. Most employers find it difficult to afford paying medical insurance for their employees. Another key finding i n Watson’s report was the emerging markets in developing nations. The medical costs in these markets slowed down between 2006 and 2009. These markets are experiencing cheaper medical rates than their counterparts in developed markets are. Medical users in developed markets are paying higher medical prices than they did five years ago (Watson, 2011). Most medical users are expecting higher medical prices in the forthcoming years (Beecham, 2010). Analysts’ project that the average increase ate of medical costs is likely to increase to 12.7 % by the end of 2012. In the developing countries, the medical costs will be higher than that of developed economies by 2.5%. From Watson’s research, the medical users in North America and Latin America predicted the highest increase in medical costs (2011). European respondents on the other hand, predicted the increase of medical costs to lesser than that experienced in the other countries in the world. The global trends in tre ating cancer have gradually changed due to the advances in science. Technology can be used to cure or eliminate some cancerous cell before they actually spread to other parts of the body. Therefore, patients have changed the manner they use in assessing treatment all over the world.Advertising Looking for coursework on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Most patients are opting for the expensive technologies that can assist in preventing the spread of cancer. Moreover, the concept of costs is of little concern to some people where technology and science guarantees full remission of the disease. With the concept of technological trends and cost trends, CEO’s can develop a sound service line for medical or health care center. In our case, developing the cancer medical care center will require incorporating the concept of global medical trends into the implementation process. This is because the costs of assessing medical care is expected to increase and the CEO has the responsibility of ensuring that, the services offered by their cancer center are either cheaper or at par with the market prices. By regulating the costs, the medical center can attract patients and keep their expenditure at manageable levels. Moreover, the CEO should consider incorporating the latest technology into the cancer center. Technology and science pro vide patients with guarantees of good treatment. Most cancer patients are attracted by the quality of the service and not the costs. Therefore, incorporating newer method will enhance the demand of the center. Discussion on Different Programs There are various ongoing programs in the fight to eliminate cancer. One of the most research programs in the field of cancer research is the Radiation Research Program. This program is used in establishing the priorities and evaluating the effectiveness of radiation in cancer patients (NCI, 2004). Moreover, oncologists and other medical practitioners use this program to allocate the resources among the different cancer patients (NCI, 2004). The Radiation Research Program team presents their findings to the National Cancer Institute in matters that deal with radiation research. The program designed by the Radiation Research Program team has several functions that may assist a new and upcoming cancer center. Among the functions of Radiation Rese arch Program is providing expertise knowledge on matters related to radiation treatment, and other forms of energy used in treating cancerous cells. In addition to this, the Radiation Research Program team assists the individual radiotherapy researchers in establishing the scope of their research. By doing this, the Radiation Research Program team ensures that the future direction of radiation treatment is in the right track. Radiation Research Program team also develops unique models that practitioners may use to help the underserved cancer patients in the world. This program ensures that the individual cancer centers can access the clinical trial results. Apart from the Radiation Research Program, other research programs also exist and are practiced by different cancer centers. The outreach program is one of the most common programs that cancer centers use to reach patients who cannot access the medical centers. Moreover, the outreach program is used to educate the public on diffe rent aspects of cancer (American College of Surgeons, 2009). From an economist’s point of view, medical centers can use outreach programs as a means of publicizing the different services offered by the center. In addition to this, the outreach programs act as a means of ensuring that patients get information at the correct time. Trinity medical center should incorporate the use of these programs in their cancer center. Incorporating the use of Radiation Research Program will ensure that the center reaps maximum benefits from the program. Benefits such as advances in use of radiation to treat patients come in handy to any cancer center. Moreover, the Radiation Research Program will provide guidance to the research department in Trinity’s cancer research team. An outreach program will ensure that the cancer center is able to educate the surrounding community. By incorporating the outreach program in service development, Trinity cancer center will ensure that they have ad vertised their services while providing useful services to the community. Financial Analysis From the Trinity’s projection, it is possible to do an analysis on the financial viability of the project using financial ratios to begin with the analysis on company initially aims to invest a capital of 8 million to ensure that the cancer center runs properly (Penman, 2001). For the company to consider the cancer center projects as economically viable they must be able to recover the capital costs. To test the ability to recover the capital the approximate number of patients expected per annum must be known. Trinity plans to charge an oncology discharge fee of $70,000. The gross charges per radiation treatment are $450 and the gross charges per Chemo treatment are $ 600. The collection is expected to be 35% and the ratio of cost to charges is 30%. Therefore, the costs incurred in ay oncology discharge will be $21000. The remaining $49 000 will be considered as revenue. Therefore, us ing the projected number of discharges the total revenue will amount to 18,718,000. The revenue from radiation oncology will be equal to 1,228,500 and the revenue from chemo treatment will be 1,260,000. However, the collections made by the trinity medical facility are 35% of the total revenue. This amounts to 7,422,275. Therefore, company will make over $18, 718, 000 in five years. This shows that the company is doing a viable business. However, their amount of collection will be lower than the capital invested. To determine further financial viability of the project financial ratios such as return on capital invested need to be calculated. However, to calculate more ratios, a complete financial statement for various years is required (Souvik, 2006). Target market Cancer centers provide care to a variety of cancer patients. Among the most affected are the people aged between the ages of 65 and older. Cancer is more common in these patients than in the younger generation. Therefore, the major target market for the cancer center will be the older generation. However, the target market is not limited in to the older generation. Cancer is affecting even the young generation in the current world. In this light of events, cancer centers should also target the younger generation affected by the disease. In general, a cancer center should focus on all the cancer patients. In addition to this, the cancer center should target the whole community to educate them. References AAMC (2007). A Biography of US Senator Rand Paul

A Biography of US Senator Rand Paul Rand Paul is a Republican United States Senator from Kentucky with conservative-libertarian view points, and the son of former Congressman and regular presidential candidate Ron Paul. An eye doctor by trade, Paul has been married to his wife, Kelly, since 1990 and together they have three sons. While Paul has limited political history, he was a frequent campaigner for his father and also the founder of a pro-taxpayer group in Kentucky, Kentucky Taxpayers United. Electoral History: Rand Paul has a very limited political history and did not make a run for political office until 2010. Although he started as a double-digit underdog to Trey Grayson in the GOP primary, Paul took advantage of the anti-establishment sentiment within the Republican Party and was one of many long-shot outsiders to oust GOP-backed candidates. With the backing of the tea party, Paul went on to defeat Grayson 59-35%. Democrats believed they had a decent chance in the general election against Paul due to his lack of political experience. They party picked the fairly popular state Attorney General, Jack Conway. Though Conway led in early polling, Paul went on to win by a fairly comfortable 12 points. Paul was backed by most conservatives and tea party groups, including Jim DeMint and Sarah Palin. Political Positions: Rand Paul is a conservative-libertarian who is ideologically-aligned with his father, Ron Paul, on most issues. Paul is staunchly in favor of states rights on most issues and he believes that the federal government should only legislate where it is constitutionally authorized to do so. He believes hot-button issues such as gay marriage and marijuana legalization should be up for each state to decide, which also seems to be an emerging opinion within the conservative movement. Paul has also been a major figure in minority outreach and a major proponent of criminal justice reform. Rand Paul is pro-life, which is perhaps where he deviates most from the larger libertarian movement. He opposes federal funding of almost everything, including abortion, education, healthcare and other extra-constitutional issues that are meant to be handled by each individual state. The main area of concern for conservatives regarding Paul is on foreign policy. While Paul is clearly on the less interventionist and less activist scale of foreign policy, he is not quite the extremist his father was on the issue. He is strongly opposed to NSA spying programs. 2016 Presidential Run: Picking up where his father left off, Rand Paul announced a run for the 2016 GOP nomination for President. While he started off with decent numbers, his popularity took a dip as he suffered a handful of poor debate performances. While his father often occupied the wild outcast role in presidential elections, Rand Pauls more measured approach actually seems to have hurt him. The anti-establishment crowd drifted away from the Ron Paul/Rand Paul side and over to Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, both who have out-maneuvered Paul. His foreign policy views have also become a liability as the Republican Party has shifted back to a more hawkish stance following the off-hands approach of the Obama White House. This has led to the occasional back-and-forth between Paul and fellow contender Marco Rubio, who has typically came out for the better. Financially, the Paul campaign has struggled and it has remained in the bottom rung of candidates. His polling has also lagged, and he has constantly struggled to remain above the debate threshold. Some Republicans have called for Paul to give up on the race and instead focus on his 2016 Senate run as they fear he is wasting valuable resources while damaging his personal popularity.

Understanding Consumer Behaviour Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4500 words

Understanding Consumer Behaviour - Essay Example Wayne and Deborah (2009) define the term consumer behavior as â€Å"Consumer behavior reflects the totality of consumer’s decisions with respect to acquisition, consumption, and disposition of goods, services, activities, experiences, people, and ideas by (human) decision-making units.† (Wayne & Deborah, 2009, p. 3) The main aim of literature review is to provide an inclusive description about different models and theories of consumer behavior in context of generating positive attitudes related to some particular products or brands. Models and theories are selected which have a core relationship between consumer behavior and marketing strategies. The other main area of literature review is to specifically review the effects of celebrities on some certain products. One way of analyzing the markets is to review and examine the projected goals through customer satisfaction, communication, and anticipation. It is quite normal that marketers conduct public surveys to judge t he consumer behavior and to find out their primary target market. By doing so, they understand the needs of their customers better than competitors and therefore implement their strategic marketing more effectively (Jobber, 2001 and Peter & Olson, 2008). Marketing researchers assert that attracting the new customers to a particular product is much cost effective and harder as compared to retain the existing customers, therefore organizations apply ‘Below The Line (BLT)’promotion model to keep the existing customers loyal with the organizations and to attract the potential customers through some comprehensive advertising campaign and marketing plan (Lanman, 2003). There are certain types of industries which primarily are... The intention of this paper is consumer behavior as the study of individuals, oragnizations, and their procedures with respect to the selection, security, and utilization of products, services, ideas or experiences to put a positive impression on the satisfaction and confidence level of consumer or society. Primarily there are four areas of application of consumer behavior. The first and foremost is marketing strategy and thats why consumer behavior is also termed as psychology of marketing. Obviously the main purpose behind any marketing strategy is to formulate and execute a better marketing campaign. For instance, the media schedule snake or fries advertisements in later afternoon because it considers that consumers are more food receptive during that period of day. It is natutal that each new product takes it time to gain popularity amongst consumers, therefore, the introductory companies need to be finacially strong to stay afloat untill their product achieves commercial dominan ce. Further, it is necessary to make the initial customers plaese because they will actually play the most important role in launching a succeessful campaign. The second applicarion is public policy i.e. to gather the data of ceneral trends of the target market and the atracts thge attiyudes of consumers towrds some specific brands or products. Marketers use several theories and models to attract the consumers and change their behavior by influencing positive attitudes towards different brands.

It is also applied to the ethic of role and professional ethics, checks other cognitive style approaches to allow a place for feelings, roles, and relationships of ethic of care, serves as a tool in core community values identification, and provides basis for cultivating virtues and moral education among the youth. The relationship between virtue theory and feminist ethics has been identified. Now that we have understood virtue theory, let us have a specific view of feminist ethics which had gain popularity during the time of Carol Gilligan. Gilligan differentiate the social formation and role among men and women. She stated that men have abstract thinking which sees moral problems arising from conflicts and solves it by appealing to the rights of the individual. On the other hand, women focus on specific situation, seeing moral problems arising from the needs in relationships and solve it through moral obligation and appealing the rights of others(Preston, 47).

Molar Mass of a Solid Essay Example for Free

Molar Mass of a Solid Essay Abstract: The purpose of this experiment is to determine the molar mass of an unknown solid. The freezing point of a solvent (Cyclohexane) was determined, and compare to the freezing point of Cyclohexane with the addition of two different concentration of unknown solid. The pure substance of Cyclohexane has defined physical properties. However, when a solute is added these properties are determined by the amount of solute added, also known as colligative properties. The temperature of the freezing point was lowered when the solid was added and it decreased as the concentration of the solid increased. The molality of the solute was determined, which was then used to calculate the molar mass of the solid for both trials. An average of the molar mass of the unknown solid was calculated to be 286.87+1.796g/mol with a %RSD of 0.626%. The purpose of the experiment was to obtain the molar mass of an unknown solid. The molar mass is determined by dissolving the unknown compound into a pure liquid with defined physical properties, in this case Cyclohexane. When dissolving a solute, it forms a homogeneous solution, in which the solvent of the solution physical properties are not longer defined, but depends on the amount of solute added. Whenever a substance is dissolved in a solvent, the vapor pressure decreases. When the vapor pressure decreases, it also lowers the boiling and freezing point of the solvent and increases the osmotic pressure. These four properties are known as the colligative properties, the magnitude of the changes depends on the amount of solute dissolve; the changes are directly proportional to each other. The higher the solute concentration, the higher the changes of vapor pressure, therefore, a lower freezing point. It is hypothesized that the freezing point temperature will decreased, if there is a higher concentration of the solid added to the soution. Vapor pressure is th e  pressure exerted by a vapor when the vapor is in a state of dynamic equilibrium with its liquid. When a nonvolatile solute is dissolves in the solvent, solute molecules occupy a part of the surface area. This allows molecules into the vapor state, lowing the vapor pressure of the solvent. When the vapor pressure lowers, the boiling point elevates, due to the presence of the solute. Solute added to the solvent affects the freezing point, the energy of the solvent lowers to increase the magnitude of the intermolecular forces for the molecules to get together to form a solid. The colligative properties are useful for determining molar masses of unknown nonvolatile solute. At low concentrations of a nonvolatile solute, the freezing–point of depression of a solvent can be determine by Tf = Kf (solvent) -Tf (solution) = Kf m. Changes in freezing point Tf are directly proportional to the molality, m, of the solute in solution (molality, m = mol solute/ kg solvent). The freezing-point constant, Kf for Cyclohexane is 20ËšC †¢ k/mol, which is used to obtain the amount of moles of solute in the solution, which is inversely proportional to the change of freezing point Tf. The molal mass obtained is essential to obtain the molar mass of the unknown solid (solute). The molal mass shows the unknown amount of moles of solute are need it per kilogram of solvent. Acquiring the number of moles of solute and analyzing it with the grams of solute measured in the laboratory obtaining the molar mass of the unknown solute.i The cooling behavior of a solution different from a pure liquid solution when a solute it’s added. Te temperature at which the solution begins to freeze is lower than the pure solvent. The freezing point also lowers when there is a higher concentration of solute added to the solution. The molar mass of unknown solid can be determined by any of the colligative properties, the freezing point is not an exception and by knowing the mass of solute and temperature of the freezing point, the molar mass can be obtained. Discussion: The freezing point depression is a colligative property of solutions, which is based only on the amount of solute added and not the defined chemical and physical properties of the substance. The freezing point of Cyclohexane observed was 4.97ËšC, from the cooling curve (Figure 1). Freezing point values of Trial 1 and Trial 2 were collected, to compared to the freezing point of Cyclohexane and determine he depression of the solute. The unknown solid yielded a freezing depression of 3.64ËšC for trial 1, and 2.84ËšC for trial 2 (Figure 2 3). These values were compared to the original mass of unknown solute added to the Cyclohexane and the approximate molar mass of  the unknown solid. The molar mass that was calculated for trial 1 was 288.14-g/mol, while trial 2 was 285.60-g/mol (Table 3). The average of the molar mass was calculated, and the molar mass of the unknown solid observed was approximately 286.87-g/mol. When calculating the standard deviation was obtain only +1.796g/mol when comparing both trials to the mean. The values are apparently close up together, making them highly precise, however, is unknown if the values are accurate, the unknown solid actual molar mass still unknown. The relative standard deviation percent, obtained was 0.626% (Table 3); this measurement expresses precision of the data, the smaller RSD the greater the precision for the average value of the data. The %RSD, is extremely low, making it the results a tremendously precise data of the mean. However, there was a possible error that could have affected the results. The error occurred during recording the cooling temperature of trial 1, the ice melted and the test tube was removed to add more ice into the beaker. Also, while recording the temperature of the Cyclohexane upon addition of unknown solid, the sample was not stir and therefore the value could have probably been invalid. Constant stirring of solution would have assured an even mix of the solute particles and a more accurate freezing point. These small errors could have affected both trials creating a higher observed molar mass value for both trials. Conclusion: The experiment allowed for the determination of freezing point of Cyclohexane based on a logger pro software with calibrated thermometers to be approximately 4.97ËšC (Table 1). Freezing point depression was observed when two trials of different concentration of the unknown solid were added to the Cyclohexane. As the concentration of the unknown solid increased, the freezing point of the solution was also lowered (Table 2). As seen on Figure 4, when placing all three graphs it is visible, when solute is added a lower freezing point is observed. Using experimental measurements, the molar mass of the unknown solid was calculated to be 286.87+1.796g/mol. Based on the relative standard deviation percent (%RSD) of 0.626%, shows a highly precise measurements of unknown solid molar mass when compared to the mean values.

The Three Tales of Cymbeline Essay -- Shakespeare Cymbeline Essays

The Three Tales of Cymbeline Cymbeline has always been a difficult play to categorize. The original collection of Shakespeare's plays, "The First Folio" (published in 1623), classifies it as a tragedy; modern editors have revised that to comedy, and to distinguish it further from other comedies, it is also referred to, along with The Tempest, The Winter's Tale, and Pericles, as a romance. Of course, like so many other plays of Shakespeare, these classifications are only guidelines rather than definitions, for an attempt to analyze a work of art according to somewhat arbitrary classifications is to diminish the very essence - its originality - that makes it a work of art. Undoubtedly, there are many aspects, patterns, and rhythms in this play that echo through several of Shakespeare's other tragedies, comedies, and even histories, for he used all his plays to view and explore a multi-faceted human condition from a variety of angles.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There appear to be three main narratives to Cymbeline - the tale of Imogen and Posthumus, with the villainous Iachimo lurking beside them, poised to destroy their happiness; the story of two sons, Guiderius and Arviragus, who have been separated from their father and are eventually restored to him; and the successful defense of Britain by King Cymbeline against foreign invasion, the one character most involved with all three stories, hence the name of the play. The understructure supporting these three plots is a virtual labyrinth of sub-plots and strands that shift in and out of each tale until the final scenes at the end, when Shakespeare, in a masterful denouement, perhaps unparalleled even in his own plays, weaves each skein (some two dozen or so), into a... ...end, King Cymbeline calls for a lasting peace between Rome and England, a peace that is a fitting resolution not only to the war but also to the internal conflicts, as wives and husbands, fathers and children return in harmony to one another. But Cymbeline, for all its tragicomic patterns, romantic devices, and historical pretensions, is at heart, as Northrop Frye put it, "a pure told tale, featuring a cruel stepmother with her loutish son, a calumniated maiden, lost princes brought up in a cave by a foster father, a ring of recognition that works in reverse, villains displaying false trophies of adultery and faithful servants displaying equally false trophies of murder, along with a great firework display of dreams, prophecies, signs, portents, and wonders." It is a complex journey of love, forgiveness, jealousy, murder, war, and peace.

Causes of Revolutionary War DBQ Essay

The colonists had endured much turmoil before the 1770s. Colonists had to fight the Native Americans and Spanish for their land. Furthermore, there was the French and Indian War in which the colonists joined forces for the first time to defeat the French and Native Americans for their land. It was during this time that the colonists learned that if they worked together, they were capable of achieving things on their own, without the help of the British. There is not one simple cause of the Revolutionary War but events that create a chain reaction. These events are as follows: the Stamp Act and taxation, colonial unity and resistance to this taxation, and Great Britain’s response to the colonial resistance. An initial cause behind the Revolutionary War was the Stamp Act passed in 1765 by the British Parliament. This caused uproar in the colonies because it was â€Å"Taxation without Representation,† and the colonists believed that â€Å"only representatives elected by the colonists had the right to tax the colonies† (Doc. D). Furthermore, the colonists were not just taxed on paper and official documents. They were also taxed on tea, and according to a biography on Paul Revere, â€Å"taxing such a vital beverage sparked continued hostility† (Doc. E). This hostility increased and spread amongst the colonists which lead to much resistance and confrontation. The colonists were livid at the taxation imposed by the British. Many colonies held protests against these taxes (Doc. G), and one colonist, Thomas Paine, published a pamphlet titled Common Sense which â€Å"urged Americans to declare independence from Great Britain† (Doc. C). This â€Å"paved the way for the Declaration of Independence† (Doc. C). Moreover, there were inter-colonial organizations that coordinated these protests and much more. For example, the Sons of Liberty were very influential in colonial resistance. They â€Å"plac[ed] themselves between the colonial leadership and the mob† (Doc. B), the mob being the enraged colonists in the streets. As a result of this resistance, Great Britain was forced to take action, not only in the colonies but in parliament as well. As the colonists raged on, the British  were forced to act in perseverance. Take for example the Boston Massacre. The colonists were rioting in the street and antagonizing the British soldiers. Captain Thomas Preston responded to this by ordering his men to â€Å"load their muskets† (Doc. H), and as a result of this five colonists were killed by British men. Furthermore, Parliament was required to act after the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Tea Party was when colonists dressed as Native Americans and dumped British tea into the Boston Harbor, and â€Å"the result of the Boston Tea Party was a greatly angered British parliament, which responded to the rebellion by closing the port of Boston and dissolving the authority of local courts† (Doc. E). These acts were known as the â€Å"Intolerable Acts.† The American Revolution was a war in the making ever since the French and Indian War. Beginning with the numerous taxation laws, which led to much resistance from the colonies, causing more taxation and laws from the British, eventually the colonists had had enough and started a full-scale rebellion which led to the foundation of the United States of America.

Civil Rights in the 1960’s Essay

Have you ever sat down and wondered to yourself, what it would be like if schools, restrooms, restaurants, and even public transportation were still segregated today? The majority of people who were born after the 1970’s take for granted how lucky we are as a country and nation to have overcome slavery and the steps against racism we have battled are way through. Slavery was ended when Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and was later ratified in December of 1865. Though this law ordered the end to slavery it did very little if nothing to stop the racism that was given towards blacks or any other minority. Until the late 1950’s not many presidents or Congressman had tried to legislate civil rights laws. The Civil Rights struggle that heated up to its climax in the 1960’s was neither a simple nor wanted task by any means. Many Presidents tried taking on the civil rights movement starting with Harry S. Truman. Truman was not for racial equality among blacks and often said so, but he wanted fairness and equality before the law (Patterson 378-382). Once Truman got the ball rolling for the first time since Abraham Lincoln, Truman pushed for a Civil Rights bill and the movement quickly started to escalate and it became one of the main issues of American politics. The next man to take office was John F Kennedy; Kennedy acted as though he had plans to address civil rights issues and is known for saying â€Å"Ask not what your country can do for you†¦ask what you can do for your country† in his inaugural address( ). Kennedy’s plans were never met in his short time as president due to assignation in 1963. Kennedy dying meant Lyndon Johnson was the next president to take president and her went on to make the next big civil rights legislation when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was established. It took the support of millions and the lives of thousands for our country to realize that people should not be segregated because of their ethnicity or color of their skin. One of the first and largest groups of civil rights movement supporters was young people and in particular college students. A college student in 1963 saw a very different daily landscape than a current college student sees today. Today kids grow up side by side with minority kids throughout their daily lives; back then they might have been the lucky few and grown up looking at blacks as equals, but more than likely they viewed them as inferiors, or even just plain animals. Then these young racists knew know better and went away to College and found themselves in one of the first places you could find support of the civil rights movement. There are many reasons to why the ball picked up speed so fast at universities. The first reason being the young people of the 60’s had not lived alongside slaves or indentured servants nor did they see the great depression or WW2 as had many of their parents and politicians of the times, so they had a different view on racism. The young people of the 60’s were viewed by the older generations specially those of the south, as being soft for not having to deal with the hardships they had to such as the great depression and the World Wars ( ). Instead of going to work before graduating high school like people in the1920’s and 1930’s people were graduating high school and even getting jobs. This caused for a more educated and affluent generation which usually runs along with having certain moral standings such as treating people of a different race equally to people of your own. With a generation bigger than ever before and more people going to college than ever before it caused for a huge explosion of self-freedom. There was many different ways students would show there want of freedom (Patterson 407-408). A very common practice in the 1960’s was for blacks and fellow college students to have sit-in’s at all white diners or transportation places. These sit-ins consisted of a group or single African American going in and taking a seat where only whites are allowed to sit and refuse to leave. Hundreds of sit-ins occurred around the nation and many taking place on university campuses run by students themselves. Several of these sit-ins are famed for the effectiveness they afterwards achieved and others for the violence that was caused upon the protestors (Patterson 382-386).The most famous case is the story of Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was on a public bus in the racist Montgomery, Alabama when the bus driver asked her to give her colored seat to a white man, because the white section was full. Rosa refused to get out of her seat and it resulted in her getting arrested. Rosa was not the first African American to refuse leaving her seat for a white person but she was viewed by th e NAACP as the best case to fight in court.( ) In the famous words of Jesse Jackson, â€Å"In many ways, history is marked as ‘before’ and ‘after’ Rosa Parks. She sat down in order that we all might stand up, and the walls of segregation began to come down( ).The support of white students to follow fellow African American students to sit-ins was not always there. Local and national news stations started to air live footage of what was happening on the streets to protestors of segregation. The emotion put on a young college student when they see one of their peers that attend college to get an education just like them gets blasted with a fire hose from ten feet away or gets viciously attacked by police dogs. This picture caused thousands of other students to want to fight for change as well. Along with the new access to live feed news there were people such as Martin Luther King Jr. who were doing all they could to paint the realistic picture of the life of an American black man during segregation. Luther got his point across in multiple ways including his famous memoir, â€Å"Why We Can’t Wait†, in this memoir he explains how horrible the everyday life of an African American in America can be and how politicians for years have just looked over the horrific treatment of blacks and that it has been too long and the time is now(King Jr 11-13). Besides the sit-ins occurring across the nation African Americans and whites were also organizing marches to protest segregation as well. Along with the marches inspiring speeches such as Martin Luther King’s famous â€Å"I Have a Dream† speech were given. King’s 17 minute speech that was given in front of over 250,000 Americans on the steps of Lincoln Memorial, is one of the most well-known and moving speeches in American history(Patterson385-386). A large number of the people in the crowd were college students, due to the appeal Martin Luther King drew from young people. He gained this appeal by talking of equality of races and the chance for any man or woman to become whatever they pleased and not be held back due to race, religion or any other difference a person may have. While students saw the abuse blacks were taking simply for the color of their skin they started to join together on marches and attending civil rights rallies. The more the King, Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, and many others protested and spread the word of unfair treatment the more support of younger generation people began to support the civil rights movement. Another reason for the large involvement of college students within the civil rights movement of the 1960’s was due to the dramatically growing amount of student organized groups that were fighting for true democracy and equality to all. One of these organizations was the Students for Democratic Society (SDS). SDS was founded in 1960 but had roots dating to the early 1900’s; the goal of SDS was to mainly protest and voice the message that equality to all and peaceful means makes a successful country ( ). SDS was not the only organization that was taking big steps to get the civil rights movement moving, there were hundreds if not thousands of organizations that were meeting about and protesting the civil rights movement. These groups were known for telling young people what they wanted to hear and some even became militant groups. Membership in these organizations grew drastically once Lyndon Johnson started sending more and more troops into Vietnam. The Vietnam War itself had little impact on the civil rights movement of the United States, but it did however portray the world image that America was not going to let communistic governments take control of countries and deny their own people of civil rights. Many Americans did not agree with the war and saw it was neither the time nor the place to go and fight a war on foreign soil when the devastating effects of WW2 were still in the back of people’s minds. The largest critic of the war was overwhelming young people, they saw themselves as the ones being sent to die for a reason that was not worthy of American lives. Though segregation and a war in Asia seem to have little in common on the surface, during the reform of the 1960’s they found each other going hand in hand. Many African Americans of the United States believed that if we were fighting in a foreign country to reserve their people’s civil rights, then they would soon get their civil rights protected as well. They were mistaken and by this and the huge support of the anti-war movement and the animosity growing against the current segregation laws molded into one giant movement. This movement being carried by young people, who saw the possibility of change, carried throughout the nation and became the biggest civil rights movement in American history since abolishing slavery (Patterson 413-422). Now that we have an idea of what growing up with segregation looks like and how it can split a nation in two, I think I can say that joining the activist movement when it began in the 1960’s was almost a no brainer to many young people of that generation. They had a tremendous amount of pressure from their fellow black peers to be viewed as equals, they had an unwanted war fueling a large part of the country, and they were also a generation that believed in change and ending the horrible acts that were committed under segregation. With all the pressures from outside sources and the generation as a whole going through a freedom crisis, college students came together and became the perfect torch barrier’s for the civil rights movement.

Analysing The Impact Of Divorce On Children Social Work Essay Example

Analysing The Impact Of Divorce On Children Social Work Essay Example Analysing The Impact Of Divorce On Children Social Work Essay Analysing The Impact Of Divorce On Children Social Work Essay The term divorce is defined by Merriam Webster Langenscheidts Pocket Dictionary as an act or case of lawfully fade outing a matrimony. It is normally between a adult male and a adult female. However recent development and other societal concepts have tended to see divorce as a legal disintegration between spouses, for illustration, a matrimony between homosexual or sapphic spouses. The latter statement goes to explicate the fact that some legal power recognizes matrimonies between the same sexes. Therefore the definition of matrimony can non be restricted to the traditional description of what matrimony is. It must besides be noted that assorted civilizations have a manner of covering with divorce. To Margulies, Sam ( 2004 ) , the determination to divorce is the beginning of two watercourses of events. First, registering for divorce triggers legal, emotional and fiscal procedure in which the house clasp must be split into two. The 2nd watercourse of event is the edifice of new lives, families, who has detention of kids of the brotherhood and new protocols being negotiated. Again, one of the things that makes divorce such a alone and frequently troubled experience is that it involves a complex interaction between two different procedures. First, divorce is a hard emotional procedure. It causes intense feeling of sadness humiliation, forsaking, letdown, rejection and fury. Most of all, divorce engenders fear, peculiarly fright of loss. Peoples fear lost of individuality as partner and parents, loss of economic and security, loss of control over their lives and loss of self-respect. So the emotional procedure of divorce is one in which people have to pull off all their feelings at the same clip. A As with any other passage, there are phases that most people pass, get downing with initial convulsion, followed by battle with alteration, and finally with version and accommodation. Children of the matrimony to be honest are non speared the hurting of these processes.A Margulies, Sam ( 2004 ) . For the intents of this academic discourse, a kid is person who is chiefly under the age of 18 or person who is non yet 20 three but still in a preparation plan. A For case, it concerns a individual who is analyzing in a preparation establishment like Sheridan College. The word consequences every bit would be used in this research represent the assorted experiences, kids whose parents are traveling through divorce face. This paper will therefore set up and do clear a hypothesis to be analyzed. Assorted statements would be adduced to back up and turn out the said hypothesis. On the other manus a counter statement will be made to rebut the hypothesis. A balance treatment on the research will besides be delved into. Finally a presentation on the result of the research will be done. Hypothesis The hypothesis is there are womb-to-tomb effects for kids whose parents go through divorce . Almost 50 per centum of kids whose parents divorce show marks of psychological harm during the first twelvemonth after the event. Harmonizing to a 1994 policy statement from the American Academy of Paediatrics, such male childs become aggressive pieces adolescent misss get depressed. To turn out farther the annihilating nature of divorce on kids whose parents go through divorce are more likely to develop drug and intoxicant jobs. Pemberton K.C. ( 1998 ) in reexamining Psychologist Judith Wallerstein s A twenty- five ( 25 ) twelvemonth survey on the impact of divorce on kids, found out that although the disassociating adult male and adult female might be able to get the better of the A injury and challenges associated with divorce, the fortunes of the kids are different. Children of such brotherhoods can transport the sick effects of divorce into their ain grownup old ages. Such grownups ten d to hold fright of committedness, unstable father-child relationships and acrimonious memories of the legal system. In explicating this place farther, Pemberton K.C. ( 1998 ) , asserts I do non reason that kids have no opportunity of healthy or felicity after their parents had divorced but the challenges kids must run into after their parents divorce are terrible and annihilating . Equally much as bookmans like Pemberton K.C. ( 1998 ) and Emery ( 2004 ) have painted a atrocious image of the state of affairs, the same bookmans have conceded to the fact that some kids who experience this phenomenon turn to populate a healthy and a successful life. For illustration there are heightening plans in our schools that go a long manner to back up and fix such kids for future healthy life. A A Argument TO PROVE HYPOTHESIS As it has been noted, there are assorted statements that go to back up the premiss that, kids whose parents go through divorce suffer womb-to-tomb effects. Some of the issues are best explained when put under emotional, physical and societal effects. To most kids, divorce will represent the first major crisis of their lives. Children turn to exhibit many emotional and psychological injury. For case in a conversation I had with a kid and young person worker at Apple wood Height secondary school as portion of my readying towards garnering information for this undertaking, enumerated that, kids whose parents had gone and are traveling through divorce bend to be withdrawn in category. This behaviour tends to attest itself in their academic public presentation. This Psychological consequence makes them move aggressive towards their equals and seems to fight with normal procedures of turning up. In much the same manner, Emery, E. R. ( 2004 ) , supported this hypothesis by saying that There are those who contend that divorce inevitable and invariable devastates kids and put the phase for a life-time of emotional jobs, period . A To turn out this point farther, he attempted to compare the behavior and attitudes of kids who are perceived to be normal because they are under the counsel of their two parents and those kids whose parents are traveling or had gone through divorce. A He found out that, the really procedure of divorce between parents causes the kids to fight through the hurting and turbulence of their parents divorce. Second, through scandalmongering media or our ain craze, we lay the load of transporting a ticking clip bomb on childs by inaccurately trumpeting the jerk of war between the parents. Even if parents seem to be making good by managing the divorce crisis, kids are inevitable doomed or damaged because of divorce. After the divorce procedure, it introduces immense alterations into the lives of most kids. This encompasses direct engagement in parental struggle, economic adversity, alterations in abode and school. To him, divorce besides increases the hazard for psychological, societal and academic jobs among kids. This increased hazard is a legitimate concern for kids, parents and the community. Finally, he stipulated that, despite parent s fervent desire to protect kids of divorce, the mere divorce procedure is a load to kids. To turn out farther the long term effects divorce has on kids whose parent are traveling and had gone through divorce, Emery, E. R. ( 2004 ) , made available some statistic to throw visible radiation on his ideas. These are ; such kids are twice every bit likely to see a mental wellness professional, up to twice of such kids are likely to hold jobs pull offing their behavior. He besides said, possibly 1.25 to 1.5 times are more likely to hold jobs with down tempers. Again, twice of such kids are likely to drop out of school before graduation. What is more interesting and sad plenty to back up the Hypothesis is the realisation that, 1.25 to 1.5 times of kids at one point or the other experienced the challenges of their parents divorced. Similarly, the same kids are likely to acquire divorced themselves. Is this non chilling plenty to turn out the hypothesis? Besides, Price E. ( 2000 ) , in her book Divorce and Teens has non described the state of affairs in any positive manner. She explained that, the issue of parents contending each other, why are my parents disassociating, why must one parent move out, must I state my friends and what should be my degree of trueness to each parent, all go a long manner to thwart such kids. Finally, choler takes over and this manifest itself in aggressive behavior towards life issues. Another practical position to the state of affairs at manus is smartly summarised by his Lordship, Mr. Justice Harvey Brownstone as follows ; After more than 14 old ages of presiding in household tribunal, one inquiry has neer seized to astonish me: how can two parents who love their kids allow a entire alien to do important determinations about their leaving agreements, wellness, instruction, extracurricular activities, holiday clip and grade of contact with each parent? This inquiry becomes even more mind-boggling when one considers that the alien doing the determination is a justice, whose formal preparation is in the jurisprudence, non in household dealingss, kid development, societal work, or a psychological science. Now add the fact that, because of heavy instance tonss and crowded dockets, most Judgess have to do legion kid detention, entree, marital belongings and support determinations every twenty-four hours on the footing of uncomplete, subjective and extremely emotional written grounds ( called affidavits ) , with virtually no clip to acquire to cognize the parents and no chances to run into the kid whose life is being so deeply affected. What individual in their right head would recommend for this method deciding parental struggle fluxing from household breakdown? This are some of the inquiries that household called Judgess agonize over. Some say the reply are complicated and have much to make with societal conditioning, economic category, degree of instruction, edification, acquaintance with community resources and even civilization. I say the replies are simple. The establishment of matrimony has non been a great success in North of America Brownstone, J.H. ( 2009 ) . P.1. COUNTER ARGUMENT TO THE A A HYPOTHESIS In malice of the chilling image painted by the assorted writers back uping the hypothesis that, there are womb-to-tomb effects for kids whose parents go through divorce , the same subject and ongoing contentions have resulted in the alteration of writers positions. For case, Emery ( 2004 ) has stated that The Hazard of Divorce Are Real but Not the Whole Narrative . By this, he has discounted some of the statements he had put frontward to back up the hypothesis. He acknowledges that divorce increases kids s psychological jobs but besides sought to stress the demand to set it into its right positions. A To him, the big bulk of kids from divorced households do non endure from psychological jobs. His statement is centred on the theory of correlativity and causality . He went farther to explicate that divorce is correlated with more psychological jobs among kids but this does non intend that it is the cause of all the jobs. Scientific grounds has at least proven that divorce can non be the cause of all the affected kids s emotional jobs. Another of import factor, Emery ( 2004 ) , considered is that what happens after divorce can travel a long manner to extinguish hazard and advancing resiliency. Besides, he used the half full and half empty analogy to rebut the premiss that all the kids who experience their parents traveling and had gone through divorce face, Emery ( 2004 ) . He duelled to a great extent on a major national survey conducted by Nick Zill, Donna Morrison and Mary Jo Cairo. The survey looked at kids between the ages of 12 and 21. The survey revealed that 21 % of kids whose parents have had divorce received psychological aid. In comparing, 11 % per centum from married households besides received similar aid. It is a fact that, there is a 100 % addition between the two groups. Once once more, this state of affairs looks chilling but the truth of the affair is that, if 11 % of kids from the normal state of affairs seek head-shrinker aid, so it presupposes 89 % do non. On the other manus, if merely 21 % of the said troubled kids seek for head-shrinker aid, so the whole phenomenon is non a instance of the glass being half empty and half full but instead the statist ics should be looked at in both ways. When this happens, it can be adduced that the glass is merely 20 % empty and 80 % full. There are no uncertainty that divorce disrupts the lives of about every kid who goes through those challenges. However, great bulk of these kids are able to screen through these troubles and win. We must non besides lose sight of the demand to clap and construct on the strengths ( strength based attack ) of such kids. Besides, measuring it from both scientific and statistical point of position, shows that psychological jobs of kids whose parents had gone through divorce starts before the existent divorce issues begin to attest. A Emery ( 2004 ) . To endorse up his determination, a significant figure of 50 % was found. A A BALANCE DISCUSSION ON THE RESEARCH At this point, it is of import for one to hold a balanced analysis of the overall positions of the subjects of divorce. That is, the thoughts which support the hypothesis and the 1s that refutes it. On a personal contemplation nevertheless, I still stand by the hypothesis that, there are womb-to-tomb effects for kids whose parents go through divorce . The oppositions of this hypothesis have sought to reason that divorce, in itself, does non enforce any womb-to-tomb effects. Realistically, most kids from divorced households are resilient. There are cases where such kids have gone through those challenges and still succeeded in their life enterprises. Most have good callings and are merrily married. This disproves the stance portraying kids whose parents have gone through divorce as a serious and impossible effect. To me, what those kids go through emotionally are every bit experienced by kids who stay and grow with their parents. Some have even tended to suggested that, it is a normal procedure of turning up. As celebrated above, merely 20 % of such childs experience the phenomenon. Looking at my societal location, I was from a divorced family.A However, I had the benefits of some societal and traditional constructions to back up me and my sibling. For case, my grandma took up the fathering duty so we neer felt the absence of our male parent. Similarly, when we migrated to Canada, the school system has reding installations that helped to prolong us to travel through the normal procedures of turning up. I am proud to state my brother and I are now in college and are determined to win in our choosing enterprise. These accomplishments would likely hold non been possible in a instance of person populating with parents. This illustration goes to back up Emery ( 2004 ) , averment that even after a separation, what you do is the most of import determiner of whether your kids are at hazard or resilient. In-spite of the statement put up by the opposition of the hypothesis, advocates still argue that kids whose parents go through divorce experience womb-to-tomb effects. It has been proven above that such kids suffer emotional and psychological effects. It is estimated that over 21 % of such kids have mental wellness issues and are likely to neglect in their matrimonies. To confirm this point farther, I would wish to pull one time once more on the conversation I had with the Child and Youth Worker at Apple Wood Height Secondary School. She explained the undermentioned points from her practical position. She said kids who have experience the effect of divorce deficiency trust. They are unable to give back love because psychologically it has been registered within their bomber witting head that if their parents who claim to love them are contending and making things irrespective of the involvement of such kids, so whom are they to swear. Isolation of such kids from equals and some school activities affects their ability to develop decently into maturity. In most instances, they are seen to be withdrawn from extracurricular activities because of the shame, holding to explicate to friends that their parents are divorced. This is more prevailing in spiritual based schools like the Catholic schools. The issue of step-parents does non assist affairs either. In the improbable event that the step-parents do non acquire along with such kids, it raises tenseness within the family and puts the kid under changeless psychological injury. I am of the sentiment that it is some of these jobs that makes these kids have mental wellness issues. Finally, what is more unsafe to society is the fact that such kids are unable to set up and keep positive relationships. Some traditional positions, though non to the full supported by me, have suggested to the belief that it is some of these social jobs that have led to the outgrowth of the sub-culture like homosexual and sapphic communities. Research Outcome From the above treatment, it has been established that different communities and different bookmans have divergent positions on the impact of divorce on kids. One position position is that such a state of affairs is non serious. However, those who support the hypothesis of which I support still believe that there are womb-to-tomb effects for kids whose parents go through divorce . This new found cognition will organize as the footing for new theories to be developed.A It will besides give the chance for other research to be carried out in this country. Practically, it will enable individual parents form confederations to recommend for policy alteration in schools and kid Centres to beef up kid and young person reding within such installations. This research will besides help people within the assisting profession such as Psychologists, Child and Youth workers and Social workers to come to the realisation that this phenomenon is really prevailing within our schools and that serious attempts should be made to help kids with such challenges to get the better of them. As an anti oppressive Child and Youth Worker, it is necessary to pay particular attending to the state of affairs even if a kid suffers as a consequence of our inactivity to cover with the state of affairs. Celia, A Slave book Melton A. Mclaurin (Author) Essay

Celia, A Slave book Melton A. Mclaurin (Author) - Essay Example The purchase of Celia was less of a cook than it was a sexual object. However, was it right to convict Celia of murder while defending herself from her rapist master? In my opinion, it was unfair to put Celia to death while she was severing her relations with her master who had raped her for five years. The judicial process at the time shows that it was against the rights of slaves and did not care what they went through. Mr. Newsom characters also depict him as a pervert who had no respect for women. Newsom character seems to have changed for the worse when his wife died. He was lonely yes, like any other man but he could have maintained his family values and principles as he had his children around to console him. After purchasing Celia as black slave who was mandated to cook, Newsom started treating her like his wife. He forced Celia to have sex with him and eventually raped her (Mclaurin 15). Celia even though angered by the inhumane act perpetrated against her by her master could not find a place to air her grievances for the slaves had no legal redress to self defense in Missouri County. Newsom unacceptable behavior may have been persuaded by the fact that he knew that there were nowhere slaves would find justice. Furthermore, it is clear that he had no respect for women as he never cared about his two daughters who were in the same compound. Newsom prolonged his illicit behavior and bore two children with Celia while he knew very well that there existed no acquaintance bet ween him and Celia (Mclaurin 23). Another sign that portrays Newsom as a pervert is the unclear circumstances his older daughter Virginia got a son named Billy while still in his father’s compound. Even though Virginia was married to Waynescot, one year after her mother’s demise she returned to stay with her father (Mclaurin 9). Her husband might have died thus

Short answer paragraphs Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Short answer paragraphs - Assignment Example Most Americans cannot afford the insurance coverage because the health care costs are high. The result is many Americans survive without the needed care that puts them at risks of various health problems. Costs for health rise as the needed treatment costs are above what would have been used to prevent the problem (Cebul 2008). A Health indicator is a characteristic that can be measured in an individual so as describe an aspect of health. Body mass index compares the weight, relative to height and age, against the measures of a healthy weight. It helps decide if interventions are needed. It refers to how societies compensate for the health care. The different options depend on the resources devoted on to them that eventually determine the amount and quality of care given to people. Some options may provide for the most advanced care while others compensate for basic care only. Medicaid is a government funded program that provides health care for low income families and those with limited resources. Those eligible to be beneficiaries can be children with disabilities, pregnant women, or parents of eligible women. Individuals in difficult conditions i.e. disabled and poor, have all their entire problems taken care of. For better services in future, beneficiaries can be asked to contribute back some share later in life when they have the capability (Cebul 2008). Increased costs of health care are due to the excess use of medical resources by patients and high costs associated charged by medics for fear of malpractice suits. The patients should be asked to take charge of their medical purchasing options. The health care system is unsuccessful because insurance dulls peoples’ consumer instincts. When medical care tends to be cheap or free, people do not shop around for other options. People do not also think otherwise before visiting the

Roman Catholicism In Brazil Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Roman Catholicism In Brazil - Essay Example the impact of the next aspect of the Brazilian religious marketplace to be considered: the Catholic church’s declining power and influence relative to other traditions. (p. 245) The erosion of Roman Catholicism’s longstanding dominant status in Brazil’s religious marketplace over recent decades is most evident in the dwindling of the Catholic rank and file. For instance, census data showed that from the 1970s up to the present, the Catholics’ share of the population was dipping in contrast to the steady rise of the Protestant percentage. The most reliable estimates place the Catholic population in the country to have dropped to a staggering 75%. (Smith and Prokopy, p. 246) This decrease seem to reflect that which some called as a veritable internal diaspora in which Catholics by the thousands have switched their primary allegiance to evangelical Protestantism, Pentecostalism, Umbanda, Afro-Brazilian traditions of Kardecism. Also, this has encouraged what came to be known as privatized type of Catholicism, wherein the faithful, instead of strictly adhering to church teachings, continued to have only irregular contact with the priests bec ause of their shortage. There are some critics who view this sea of change in the Brazilian religious economy was the Catholic hierarchy’s shift to a more tolerant stance regarding religious pluralism. One should remember that that during the preconciliar period, Afro-Brazilian traditions and Umbanda were systematically denounced by the press, often at the instigation of the Catholic hierarchy. Whether there are some valid issues in regard to the exodus of some Catholics towards other denominations or not, the fact remains that Brazilians have a deep sense of religiosity. In this regard, we go back to how popular Catholic traditions are hardly episodic, fortunately they are also not routinized. (Reily 2002, p. 213) Furthermore, while popular Catholicism stands in opposition to the centralized official church, it is

Brainwashing Our Future Essay Example for Free

Brainwashing Our Future Essay Around the globe today, the belief that a perfect body existing is at an all-time high. With airbrushing being used on practically every photo of actors/actresses/models, young adults get the false sense that they have to be a specific way to be prefect or normal even. It’s unjust that airbrushing photos leads these young adults to hate on themselves or on others for not being something that, in all reality, isn’t even real. Airbrushed photos of modern idols case teenagers to participate in unhealthy eating disorders, to bully fellow peers, and to obtain emotional problems that will stay with them for a lifetime. With airbrushing of photos also comes the unhealthy practice of eating disorders in young adult, especially young women, to fulfill the belief that doing so will result in having â€Å"matched up to their beauty and perfection† (Petten Van). Disorders like anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating have become most commonly found in the adolescent population because of these photos. In general, teen girls grow up seeing airbrushed photos which cause the desire to be â€Å"perfect†, later resulting in eating disorders. 42% of 1st to 3rd grade girls want to be thinner and 86% females report onset of eating disorder by age 20; 43% report onset between ages 16 and 20 (â€Å"Eating Disorder Statistics†). As a result, death rate of young adults has increased immensely and continues to surrender the hope of ever ending the cycle of teen disorders. Generally, as the number of adolescents who attain an eating disorder increases, so does the number of deaths to the teen populatio n. Airbrushing also contributes to bullying. Young adults are given the idea that one has to be a specific way in order to be accepted, so as a rule, teenagers bully one another out of jealousy or belief that all should fit what is seen as the norm due to airbrushing. But in return, there is the â€Å"5% of Americans that naturally possess the body type portrayed in magazine images† (â€Å"Eating Disorder Statistics†). That 5% is also bullied by those brainwashed by society to see it as the standard form. It makes sense that â€Å"a healthy girl does not have a solid sense of who she is and can be very susceptible to thinking one should look like the models, even though the model is airbrushed and really only a fantasy† (Cooper). Demi Lovato, a young teen pop star, has â€Å"openly aired her troubles† many times, describing the effects eating disorders and bullying that resulted from social media, like airbrushed photos, had on her life (LaPort). Bullying is the result of teens not having many idols that are raw and â€Å"going through what many of them are† (LaPort). Summing up the overall affect airbrushing has on adolescents comes down to these: emotional predicaments that can stay on one’s heart and mind until the very last breath. As a victim of bullying, my cousin Morgan shared her thoughts and feelings on her experiences. â€Å"The things they said were so harsh†¦unforgettable,† she whispered. â€Å"Every day I look at myself and repeat those words, even though I physically know they aren’t true.† She is one of â€Å"160,000 children who miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students† (â€Å"Make Beats Not Beat Downs: Facts and Statistics†). Bullying and eating disorders do not have short term effects, and can affect even the most confident person on the planet. These long term emotional situations are hurting the young minds of society and it all comes back to the pointless use of airbrushing. Some believe airbrushing is â€Å"just and image†¦a fantasy if you will†, regardless of the effect it has on adolescents (Cooper). Which is true, but teenagers are at the point of learning who they are and look to these photos of their idols to help decide, or figure out, who exactly is it that they see themselves being as adults. Others believe that airbrushing protects the eyes of younger minds from inappropriate matters like tattoos, thongs, or smoking. In response, the sooner one learns what the real world has to offer, bad and good, the sooner one realizes that everything isn’t perfect and can make decisions based on actual matters. Parents cannot protect children from the ideas of society surrounding them no matter how much they try. Would one rather children learn by looking at something everywhere around them or by hearing it from a mind not brainwashed by the wrong doings? The governments that allow the use of airbrushing on models and actors could easily pass a law to ban the deceptive practice of airbrushing. But the government won’t act unless the citizens act upon it first. By celebrities themselves opposing the act of an artist reconstructing their photos, and sewing them if done regardless, soon enough there won’t be any airbrushed photos to be released to the public. Previous victims of eating disorders or bullying should take a stand and tell the government, and its people, just how badly these photos affect the generations of society today. If not stopped now, then when will airbrushing ever come to an end? It’s time to end it and stop brainwashing our future. Works Cited A) Catapano, Rosanna. The Northern Lights Essay -- Plays Literature Shakespeare Papers

The Northern Lights I hardly see how one can begin to consider Shakespeare without finding some way to account for his pervasive presence in the most unlikely contexts: here, there, and everywhere at once. He is a system of northern lights, an aurora borealis visible where most of us will never go. Libraries and playhouses (and cinemas) cannot contain him; he has become a spirit or "spell of light," almost too vast to apprehend. Harold Bloom, Shakespeare: The Invention of the Human I don’t expect this short paper to reach the northern lights. I don’t think my mind can travel that far, and a plane ticket is probably too expensive. After three months of study, Shakespeare has exhausted me. I realize many scholars spend their whole lives in libraries trying to reach the elusive bard. I’m either out of shape or lazy. I have learned one thing this quarter. I don’t have to travel to the northern lights to find Shakespeare. I discovered him one day in a play, within a small scene, as a character, in an illusion. This quarter I had the opportunity to perform Edgar in a small production of King Lear. I truly believe Edgar is the embodiment of Shakespeare. I just had to perform him to figure it out. Now, I must confess; I haven’t read every Shakespeare play twice, so I don’t know if other characters fit the mold better than Edgar. Also, I assure you I’m not losing my mind as I write this. I feel quite healthy. I just had o ne of those most rare visions. Fortunately, I didn’t have to be an ass to have this dream. On the Dover cliffs, under the hot sun, with a director screaming action, and a camera pointing towards me, I found Shakespeare. This quarter I had the opportunity to experience Shakespeare everywhere at once. I read fo... ... more and more I read. He is the great magician to me, the playwright with his bag of tricks. I saw theater in his illusions. I learned this quarter you don’t have to travel to the ends of the earth to find Shakespeare. "How fearful and dizzy ‘tis to cast one’s eyes so low!" A Life Worth Fighting for

A Life worth Fighting For There are many babies that are born early; many mothers do everything they can to stay pregnant until at least 27 weeks. There are just some things that can't be stopped. There are many families that rely on insurance companies to help out with that cost, but more and more insurance companies are trying to or are turning down premature babies that are born before 27 weeks. Should insurance companies be able to turn down a premature baby because of the risk of being sued? Many hospitals even have doctors that will not help the baby if the insurance will not help out. Many mothers cannot control when they have a baby. There are many hospitals that even tell the mothers that she is fine and that she is just having Braxton Hicks, but in all honestly she is having actual contractions. There are Terbutaline shots that doctors could use to help stop the contractions if they would actually listen to women. There are also different procedures that can be done to stop from someone’s water breaking. There are more and more insurance companies, especially private companies that are trying to turn down babies that are born before 27 weeks.Private insurance companies sometimes have lower deductibles, but there are a lot of things that they are trying to leave out so they do not have to cover. Companies think that preemies before 27 weeks are a liability and if they helped cover the charges and the baby did not make it that the family would go after them and put them out of business. Sadly many companies are finding that either way they can get sued. There are insurance companies that are turning down preemies; making it so the child does not have a fighting chance at life. With insurance companies turning down preemies, the companies should help pay for abortions. The companies are pretty much stating they rather a fetus not have a chance than to try and help pay for a preemie or a child with a down syndrome. There are some states like Oregon a nd Arizona (Abortion Facts) that have abortion laws that are banning abortion, if a state is going to ban abortion than they should make all the insurance companies that are used in that state cover an infant no matter what. Many insurance companies especially private ones are at a higher liability with covering a child born before 27 weeks. There are some many risks that insurance companies could be faced with. For a premature baby to stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for even two days the hospital bill would range from $25,000 to a $100,000. Many insurance companies don't see any type of outcome from that. They think that a family with a low deductable should have to pay more each month for insurance if the family expects them to pay that much for their child. There are also many â€Å"big named† companies that think spending that much on a baby is ridiculous. Yes, to someone that child may be their only child or only chance at having a baby. Insurance companie s look at the long run.Either the deductable is going to go up or the monthly payment is going to go up. Why should we have insurance companies if they are going to have the option of what they cover when the situation arrives? There have been insurance companies that have been sued for babies that do not make it because they were limited the help and the medication the baby was receiving. On the other hand, there are also insurance companies that are getting sued due to turning down a baby and the baby surviving. Many insurance companies if they cover having a baby that early will only support or help pay for certain things. There are a lot of tests like Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (Premature Infant) that the child needs done and insurance companies refuse to pay for but if the child doesn't have the tests done than the doctors don't know what exactly they need to do to help the baby live. Therefore, there are many babies that do not make it due to an insurance company tu rning down certain things. There have also been many insurance companies that have been sued for turning down helping a family and the child makes it. It is neglect on the insurances part for not giving the chance they deserve. There are quite a few doctors (Smith) (Graham) that refuse to help babies that early because of insurance companies, but there are also doctors that believe a child that early does not have a chance. In 2008 Sara Capewell gave birth to a little boy that the doctors had refused to help or send to the NICU because she was at high risk of having a premature baby and they had told her not to have any more children. (Smith) So the insurance companies are part of the reason infants do not receive proper care, and there are insurance companies get â€Å"lucky† because the doctor refuses to help the family out. There are doctors out there that are only in the profession for the money. They don't care if they are saving a life or not they just want the â€Å"big † paychecks every two weeks. They think that if an insurance company isn't going to help pay for the care of a baby that early than the hospital won't get the money making so they don't get paid. So they turn down families that have no control over the situation. Many mothers are sent home to have the baby so they can have their time with the baby when the infant doesn't make it.How unfair is that to not even give a child a chance because they are worried about not getting paid. Well insurance companies think that they are â€Å"lucky† for there being doctors like that. It makes the hospital look bad not the insurance companies. Every child should have a chance to live. If insurance companies are not going to help a family or mother give that child a chance at life then the insurance company should really look into assisting with birth control and abortion fees. Every child has the right to fight for their life and an insurance company should be there to help no matter what the case is.Works Cited Allen, Vanessa. â€Å"‘Doctors Told Me It Was against the Rules to save My Premature Baby'† Mail Online. 10 Sept. 2009.
